Smolka Contemporary presents works by Kaja Clara Joo, Hans Kupelwieser, Rita Nowak and Manfred Wakolbinger as part of Foto Wien 2023.

 
The works of the four artists oscillate between reality and invention, between fact and fiction. Their basis is the representational. The bodies and things depicted are abstracted and ambivalent. The works raise questions and make us wonder about the strange worlds and the unusual form of the everyday that are staged and created.
 

The medium of photography connects Kaja Clara Joo, Hans Kupelwieser, Rita Nowak and Manfred Wakolbinger, but their approach is very individual. Each work in the exhibition stands on its own as a world created by the artists. Their juxtaposition results in an organic and mysterious interplay of alienation.
