Markus Redl

Biography

Markus Redl is an Austrian drawer, sculptor, and author. He first studied psychology at the University of Vienna and then, from 1998 to 2004, at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna under Ingeborg Strobl and Erwin Wurm.

“Markus Redl is arguably one of the most interesting contemporary artists in Austria. His art is about more than the simple, visible narrative. It is the artist’s constant attempt to engage with the world through his comprehensive knowledge of literature, natural sciences, and philosophy, to reflect, question, wonder, search, and find a way to at least begin to understand it.”
– Sylvie Aigner, as read on leadersnet.at (in German): “Gestern, heute, morgen.” – Markus Redl im Portrait

His first major solo exhibition took place in 2005 at the Neue Galerie in Graz, curated by Günther Holler-Schuster. Exhibitions followed in numerous galleries (including Mario Mauroner, Galerie Chobot, and Galerie Kandlhofer). A well-known collector of Redl’s works is the German entrepreneur and art patron Reinhold Würth.

Markus Redl was born in 1977 in Klosterneuburg, Austria. He lives and works in Vienna.
