Parallel Vienna 2026
Smolka Contemporary is delighted to announce our participation in Parallel Vienna with a solo presentation by Arezou Shayesteh Sadafian in the ‘Gallery Statement’ section.
Arezou Shayesteh Sadafian, a textile artist originally from Iran, works with thread on cardboard in her current series. These works demonstrate a very specific engagement with the textile material, with particular emphasis on the twisting of the thread and the resulting surface texture. The colour combinations, with their gradients and contrasts, form abstract compositions, each radiating out from a central point. The dense interweaving of the texturally structured textile lines creates varied reflections of light, whose shimmering effects produce distinct spatial effects.
Arezou Shayesteh Sadafian was born in Tehran, Iran, in 1975. She studied physics in Tehran from 1994 to 2001 and, from 2020 to 2025, completed a BA/MA in Textile Art and Design at the University of Art and Design Linz under Gilbert Bretterbauer and Johannes Schweiger. She lives and works in Linz.
